Born in San Fernando Cebu in 1919, Grand Master Cacoy Cañete receive the Presidential Trophy after he became a Champion in the First National Open Eskrima (Arnis) Championships in 1979. He was the only Filipino Martial Artist invited to join the World Martial Arts Festival in Adelaide. South Australia in August 1988. He founded Eskrido, which is Eskrima integrated with Jiu-Jitsu and Judo which revolutionized Doce Pares Eskrima. A recipient of numerous citations and accolades one of which is the Life Membership Award from the US Martial Arts Association in Missouri, USA in 2006. Cacoy is also the author of numerous books on Eskrima, the latest of which “Eskrima Techniques”, is due to come out sometime in June 2008. He has conducted several Eskrima Eskrido and Pangamot Seminars in the US, Canada, Mexico, England, Germany, Poland and Australia since 1981.
