Saridon: Only promoted in Visayas and Mindanao

With the advent of technology one can easily advertise their production in the internet through the Social Media sites; though, advertising the product the traditional way is still in. Sometimes it’s a bit annoying especially in Facebook, when one of online sellers always tagged you in one of the products they are selling. Same goes to Multiply; however, they already have a “Market Place” there where you can setup an account, advertise and sell your products online.

As we all know, advertising is the only way a company could reach their target market. Without advertising or information dissemination about a certain product means the company couldn’t achieve their target number of sales of their product. Like, when you’re selling something and only the people working inside that company how that thing works or what are the effects of that product. Yeah, word-of-mouth is the solution but that’s not powerful enough to penetrate a market and to outdo products that are of the same use or effect of what you are selling.

But what if the information they are disseminating to the audience are all fallacy? And why are they promoting the product only in a certain locality?

Let’s start with the case of a pharmaceutical product that’s only promoted here in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Saridon is a pain killer that is popular in Visayas and Mindanao. Even two of their TV advertisements were shot here in the Visayas. If memory serves me right, the first Saridon ad featured the then PBB contestant Jayr Siaboc and was shot in Mactan, Cebu. The second ad was still shot here in Cebu and was featured on one of the local TV station.

Is it really safe to take?

At first I thought that Saridon is safe to take, not until I found an article published online that Saridon is unsafe citing its previous formula containing phenacetin and its new formulation has propyphenazone that can have negative side-effects to those who take it.

I think that’s the first question we need to ask before trying or buying a pharmaceutical product. Health is wealth as what they say, but what if the medicines we are taking is the culprit for developing another illness.

So what’s the use of BFAD after all?

As the agency that issues permit for pharmaceutical products, they should police those product ads, like of Saridon, and products such as those herbal supplements stating that there’s no approved therapeutic claims.

With this it seems that people living in the Visayas and Mindanao area are like lab rats!

  1. that’s why one should know when it is necessary to take medicine or not, with the proper guidance of a doctor. i rarely take meds myself. i prefer non-pharma treatments. but yeah sometimes its inevitable. one just has to be careful.
