What are the Awards about?
• The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Triennial Awards for the Visayas and Mindanao recognizes the philanthropic, humanitarian and holistic efforts of individuals and institutions in enhancing the quality of life of various groups and communities.
• The RAFI Triennial Awards also commemorate and reflect the philanthropic, humanitarian and holistic ideals of Don Ramon Aboitiz and his son Don Eduardo Aboitiz.
Who gives the Awards?
• The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) based in Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines.
Why is the coverage only for the Visayas and Mindanao?
• Because the majority of the awards given in the RP have gone to individuals and organizations based in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Luzon.
• RAFI’s geographic focus is the Visayas and Mindanao regions where many outstanding individuals and organizations should also be recognized, rewarded and promoted.
What is RAFI?
• Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit organization committed to “Touching People, Shaping the Future” by working towards elevating lives through a comprehensive approach that champions best practices in community development.
The position calls for the foundation to be:
• Collaborative—adhering to an inclusive process as a venue for sharing knowledge to gather the best resources, and providing opportunities to establish partnerships;
• Holistic—conceptualizing programs that look into multi-issues and draw comprehensive solutions, according to the foundation’s and the partners’ resources, with the end of empowering people; and a
• Role Model—leading communities to sustained change and results by utilizing best practices at the same time exploring innovative solutions and setting an example to other development partners by promoting their work and causes.
What does the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation (RAFI) do?
• RAFI has evolved from a strictly philanthropic organization founded by Don Ramon Aboitiz in 1966 to a development agency today under RAFI president Roberto Aboitiz and the Aboitiz family that remain committed to creating opportunities.
• Throughout RAFI’s 43-year history, the foundation has developed competencies and insights into development work with a team of 160 permanent staff eager to upscale our models of development.
Our core areas of concern are:
• Education
• Leadership and Citizenship
• Micro-Finance and Entrepreneurship
• Culture and Heritage
• Integrated Development (highlighting on Community Development, Health and the Environment)
• RAFI’s role remains to provide the architecture of participation, setting the stage for partnerships, coalitions and project management by working with local government and civil society in bringing about positive change.
How long have the RAFI Triennial Awards been around?
• Since 1996 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the founding of RAFI in 1966.
How can I nominate?
• By filling out and submitting a short nomination form at all 2GO offices in the Visayas and Mindanao, or downloading the nomination form at the RAFI website http://www.rafi.org.ph.
Is there a prize?
There are two trophies:
• The Ramon Aboitiz Award for Exemplary Individual in the Visayas and Mindanao and
• The Eduardo Aboitiz Award for Outstanding Institution in the Visayas and Mindanao.
