Cheez Whiz Palamantasan 2010
July 17, 2010 – After a week of non-stop practice for our performance for our school’s inauguration, I finally found time to get out of my cage and hang-out with my fellow Cebu based bloggers. Hanging out with friends of the same feather really sure is full of fun; though this time we’re not going out and do the things we usually do, we’re out to witness first hand the Palamantasan – the first interschool competition among grade school students.
Peeps from the print media and fellow bloggers converge in a hotel to be picked-up by the service who eventually led us to Lapu - Lapu City Central Elementary School, which happened to be the venue for the Cebu leg of Palamantasan.

When we arrived at Lapu – Lapu City Central Elementary School we were greeted by their school band. The band played a couple of piece while their majorettes did the thing that they know most: dance. Anyways, we arrived at the venue around 12nn and the buffet lunch is already prepared. Always remember, don’t do coverage if your stomach is empty or else you know the consequence.
After everyone’s done eating their lunch we were then guided to the school’s open gymnasium. Students and parents were already there seated while others were standing waiting for the program to start.
Kraft Cheez Whiz never failed to catch the attention of the people around during the event with their very catchy booth where food prepared using Cheez Whiz were displayed. While on the other side of the event venue Expressions also had their own booth and gave away school supplies like notebooks, pencils, crayons and many more.
Before the program started Mr. Alex Dan Tacderas, the Category Manager for Cheese and Spoonables of Kraft Foods Philippines said on his opening remarks that “School is second to home where children learn basic lessons and values. That is why we wanted to direct our cause and execute our program in schools in both an enjoyable and educational way.”
It was not the first time I met Mr. Tacderas. He was also here last December for an event that was also spearheaded by Kraft Foods Philippines.
Jarchitecture

I was really amazed on how creative the students who participated the Jarchitecture competition. This only shows how creative our Filipino students are. Coming up with a concept for a design for this competition is quite challenging for because you’re only allowed to use Kraft Cheez Wiz jars. This really needs squeezing of creative juices.
Of the three entries what really catches my attention is the entry that’s somewhat formed like a guitar with a flower-ish shaped headstock, and guess what, that work of art is the winner of Jarchitecture. My bet won!
Sandwich Art

Students together with their beloved mothers worked hand-in-hand and made some delicious sandwich using Kraft Cheez Whiz. I thought they will let us taste those sandwiches but to no avail only the judges got to taste those. With those good looking sandwiches no doubt that aside from being delicious it’s also full of vitamins. As what that chef from a cooking pan ad that I usually waste my time watching with the whole afternoon when I was still young, “We eat with our eyes. If the food looks good then it tastes good.”
Essay Writing

We actually haven’t witnessed actual essay writing competition since it was done the morning of the same day. The theme: “Anu-ano ang natutunan mo tungkol sa palaman at nutrisyon?.” It must be written in English and has a maximum word of 200.
Sabayang Pagbigkas

There’s no doubt Team Aktibo won in this competition. With their appealing props, well rehearsed acting and a clear delivery of the story made this group stand-out from all the other participants. This was the only part of the program that the students and parents, who were present during the competition, shouted and applauds the performance of the group.
Cheez Whiz Cheering

When S.H.E. BRATS entered the stage I can actually see the anxiousness in their eyes and the will to win the competition. It was kind of funny though, coz my eyes was somewhat glued to one of their members who really looked like a friend of mine; however, the kiddo version.
Watching those kids performed on stage gave me a thought that they’re so lucky for having this kind of inter-school competition. They got to show their different talents through the different competition Palamantasan is bringing. We don’t have this kind of competition during our time. We’re just stuck in our classrooms and get recognitions that we actually don’t know how we got it. Thanks to Kraft Foods Philippines for spearheading this kind of competition. It’s indeed a Palamantasan ng Sarap.
You can Make a Pledge by visiting the Palamantasan website. A lot of students posted their pledge already. Now it’s your time to post yours and inspire other people through your pledge.

If you happen to know someone who’s working in a school, please encourage them to Join Palamantasan.
