Manuel “Maning” Velez

Prof. Manuel P. Velez or Maestro Maning to his friends was the music icon of Cebu. His compositions, Luha sa Kalipay way made into a Visayan Movie of the same title, Lawiswis sa Kawayan, Makabibihag ang Rosas, Balitaw ni Inday, Ako'y Kampuput, Malipayon Ako Karon, among into different languages and dialects. The most famous among his children is the actress, Lilian Velez. Prof. Manuel Velez practically spent all his life making music, playing the piano and composing songs that lingered thru the ages.

HE’S MY GREAT GRANDFATHER! My grandfather is Cecilio C. Velez Sr., Lilian Velez’s younger brother.

I learned to sing Sa Kabukiran from the originial copy of sheetmusic printed.

Elizabeth, my grandmother Jovita Velez, Cecilio Velez Sr’s wife is very excited that we’ve found another member of the family. Was your father also known as ‘Manolo’?

So interesting! My grandfather is 1st cousin of manuel velez (maning velez) my grandfather is Juanito Velez son of Pita (Go) Rodriguez Velez
